Charlotte Foundation Repair - Employee vs. Subcontractor game
Dear Homeowners,
Do you know who is actually going to do the work at your home now that you have hired a foundation repair contractor? I mean.... do you really know? Does the company you hired use their own employees to do work or do they use subcontractors? Subcontractors these days means that they literally fill up their truck with workers that they don't even know on the way to do the thousands of dollars of repair work on the structure of your home. Sounds like fun, doesn't it?
It happens all the time, people. Don't be naive. Everyone will claim to use employees, but most do not. Foundation Repair contractors play this game to avoid payroll taxes, ovetime pay, and unemployment claims. By doing this, they expose you to completely unqualified labor fixing your home, not to mention complete strangers entering your home. That is, people with no background checks, drug tests, or anything. They could be convicted felons for all they know. Let's also not forget your exposure to lawsuits in these cases. Subcontractors are rarely going to be covered by a company's GLC insurance policy (Honestly, if a company is using sub's, they probably don't even have insurance). When they get hurt or don't get paid, they will sue you. Be warned!
What are you supposed to do? Good question. Check out everyone on the BBB. Make sure their length of time in business somewhat matches up with their time in the BBB. Check references and get at least 3 foundation repair estimates. Click on some of these foundation repair companies in Charlotte below to get started. I would also advise educating yourself on the subject of foundation repair with one of the many great books at Amazon.com. You don't need to know everything, but you do need to know enough to not be taken advantage of and to ask the right questions. Be Smart. Be prepared. Don't get burned!
